Our Vision

Serving the Community

Founded by Frank Latin, WMP (formerly Westside Writing Project), began as a column in a community newspaper. It later took the shape of a summer writing program providing an opportunity for youth participants on the west side to publish their own newsletter. Now, it is a grassroots, media-arts organization with a year-round program serving youth, young adults and other community organizations. 

Westside Stories aims to bring spotlight to local stories, social services, and opportunities for the Chicago community. We hope that this publication helps counter widely held misperceptions about the Westside that are dominant in mainstream media outlets and local media outlets that aren’t inclusive of Westside perspectives.
